4x4 Alignment in Denver
What We Do
Lifted trucks and modified 4x4s need a completely different approach to alignment than stock vehicles. When you add a lift kit, leveling kit, or aftermarket upper control arms, your suspension geometry changes. Camber, caster, and toe all shift from where the factory set them, and those factory specs no longer apply.
That is where most shops get it wrong. Franchise alignment shops and quick-lube chains punch in the factory specs for a stock vehicle and call it done. The printout says everything is "in spec," but the truck still pulls, the steering wheel sits off-center, and your tires start wearing unevenly within a few thousand miles. The specs they are referencing were designed for a vehicle sitting at stock height with stock geometry. Once you change ride height, those numbers are meaningless.
At Tru Automotive, we set alignments specifically for modified vehicles. We adjust camber, caster, and toe based on your actual ride height, your UCA position, and the weight your truck is carrying. If you are running aftermarket upper control arms from brands like ICON, Camburg, Dirt King, or SPC, we know how to dial those in for proper geometry. If you are still on factory arms with cam bolt adjustability, we know how to get the most out of that setup too.
We have been doing off-road alignment work in Denver since 2013. That is over a decade of setting up lifted Tacomas, 4Runners, Tundras, Raptors, Wranglers, Colorados, Rams, and everything else that rolls through our shop on bigger tires and taller suspension.
We are located at 930 W Mississippi Ave in Denver and serve the entire metro area, including Lakewood, Englewood, Littleton, Aurora, Arvada, and Boulder.
Built for Every Off-Road Platform
Tacoma. 4Runner. Tundra. Ford Raptor. Bronco. Wrangler. Colorado ZR2. Ram. We align all of them.
Every platform has its own alignment quirks after a lift. A 3rd Gen Tacoma with aftermarket UCAs requires a different setup than a JL Wrangler with a 3.5-inch spring lift. A Raptor running factory long travel geometry has different caster targets than a Ram 2500 on a leveling kit. We know the differences because we have been setting these trucks up for years.
If your vehicle goes off-road and has been modified, we can align it properly.
When You Need an Alignment
Not every alignment is routine maintenance. For modified trucks, there are specific situations where skipping an alignment will cost you in tire wear, handling, and safety.
After any lift or leveling kit install. This is the most common reason trucks come to us. A lift changes your suspension geometry, and the alignment needs to be reset to match. Even a simple 2-inch leveling kit shifts your caster and camber enough to cause problems.
After upper or lower control arm replacement. New UCAs or LCAs change your pivot points and affect alignment angles. Whether you upgraded to adjustable arms or replaced worn stock components, the alignment needs to be checked and set.
If your truck pulls or eats tires unevenly. Inside edge wear on the front tires is one of the most common signs of a bad alignment on a lifted truck. If the truck pulls to one side on the highway or the steering wheel does not sit straight, bring it in.
After adding significant weight. Steel bumpers, rock sliders, roof racks, armor, and camper shells all change how the truck sits. That weight compresses the suspension and shifts the geometry. If you added a few hundred pounds of accessories, your alignment should be rechecked.
Seasonal check for trail rigs. If you run your truck hard on trails, rocks, and washboard roads, the alignment takes a beating. Bringing it in once or twice a year keeps everything dialed and saves you from burning through a set of tires early.
Common Questions About 4x4 Alignment
Answers to what customers ask us most about off-road alignment for lifted and modified vehicles.
Alignment
How long does an alignment take?
Most alignments take about an hour. If your truck has aftermarket upper control arms that need adjustment or if we run into seized hardware, it can take a bit longer. We will let you know upfront what to expect.
Why should I come here instead of a franchise alignment shop?
Franchise shops align stock vehicles to factory specs. That works fine for a car that has never been modified. But if your truck has a lift, aftermarket UCAs, or is carrying extra weight from armor and accessories, factory specs do not apply. Our technicians set your alignment based on the actual geometry of your modified suspension. That is a skill set most franchise shops simply do not have.
Do I need an alignment after installing a lift kit?
Yes. Every lift kit changes your suspension geometry. Camber, caster, and toe all shift when ride height changes. Without a proper alignment, your tires will wear unevenly and the truck will not drive the way it should. We strongly recommend getting an alignment as part of any lift install.
How often should I get my alignment checked?
For daily drivers with a lift, once a year is a good baseline. If you are running trails regularly, hitting washboard roads, or making changes to your setup, you should check it more often. Any time you notice uneven tire wear, pulling, or a crooked steering wheel, bring it in.
What vehicles do you align?
Toyota, Lexus, Ford, Jeep, Chevy, Ram, Nissan, and more. If it goes off-road and has been lifted or modified, we can align it. Call us if you are not sure whether we can work on your vehicle.
Can I come in without an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome, but we recommend calling ahead or filling out the form below so we can plan time on the rack for you. That way you are not waiting around if we are already in the middle of a bigger job. Call us at (303) 954-8836 or stop by at 930 W Mississippi Ave in Denver.
