Overland Outfitting & Rooftop Tent Install in Denver
What We Install
Rooftop tents, camper shells, roof racks, drawer systems, fridge mounts, on-board water systems, solar and 12V power management, recovery gear mounting, and cargo management solutions. If it goes on, in, or under your rig for overlanding, we install it. We also handle the lighting and electrical side of overland builds.
Tru Automotive is your local shop for truck bed campers and rooftop tents from Super Pacific, Lone Peak Overland, Freespirit Recreation (FSR), and iKamper. We sell and install Super Pacific and Lone Peak campers right here in Denver, we are an official Lone Peak Overland install location, and FSR tents and awnings are available through our online store. Bring us an iKamper or another tent you already own and we will mount it, wire it, and get it road ready.
Every overland build is different. A Tacoma with a wedge tent and a basic solar setup is a completely different project than a Tundra with a full bed camper, dual batteries, a fridge, and a water system. Most overland builds also benefit from a suspension upgrade to handle the added weight. We look at your vehicle, your gear list, and how you actually use your truck before we recommend anything.
We are located at 930 W Mississippi Ave in Denver and serve the entire metro area, including Lakewood, Englewood, Littleton, Aurora, Arvada, and Boulder.
Built for Every Off-Road Platform
Tacoma. 4Runner. Tundra. Bronco. Wrangler. Gladiator. Colorado. Ram. F-150. We build overland rigs across all of them.
Roof load ratings, bed dimensions, electrical systems, and mounting points are all different from one platform to the next. A rooftop tent install on a 3rd Gen Tacoma with a bed rack is a different job than fitting a Super Pacific X1 to a Tundra CrewMax or a Lone Peak Camper to a Colorado. We know the differences because we have done them all.
If your vehicle goes off-road and you want to camp out of it, we can help you build it right.
The Camper and Rooftop Tent Brands We Install
Super Pacific. The X1 is a four-season wedge camper built in Portland, Oregon for mid-size and full-size trucks: aluminum frame, marine-grade tent fabric, three locking canopy doors, and stand-up room in the bed. Built-in wire chases and T-slots make it a clean base for solar, awnings, and lighting.
Lone Peak Overland. A made-to-order pop-up truck bed camper that combines a lockable topper with a rooftop-tent-style sleeping area, sets up in seconds, and starts around 400 pounds. Tru Automotive is an official Lone Peak install location, so you can order it, pick it up, and have it installed in Denver.
Freespirit Recreation (FSR). Hard shell and hybrid rooftop tents like the Evolution, Aspen, Kali, and Nova, plus 270 and 180 degree awnings and hub ground tents. FSR gear is available through our online store, and we install what we sell.
iKamper. The Skycamp expandable hard shell sleeps up to four and opens in about a minute, and the X-Cover hybrid keeps a low profile with room for crossbars on top. Bring yours in and we will pair it with the right rack and mounting hardware.
Not Sure Which Rooftop Tent or Camper to Run?
Rooftop tent or bed camper. Hard shell or soft shell. Wedge or clamshell. Bed rack or roof rack. Every one of those choices changes weight, height, setup time, storage, and what your truck can safely carry. There is no single right answer, only the right answer for your vehicle, your budget, and how you actually camp.
That is where we come in. Our crew installs these setups on Tacomas, 4Runners, Tundras, Colorados, Gladiators, and full-size trucks, and camps out of their own rigs on Colorado trails. Tell an advisor what you drive, who comes with you, how many nights a year you are out, and whether you need the bed for gear during the week. We will walk you through the trade-offs between a Super Pacific, a Lone Peak, an FSR tent, or an iKamper and land on the setup that fits, including the rack, suspension, and electrical it needs to work right.
Common Questions About Overland Builds
Answers to what customers ask us most about rooftop tents, overland outfitting, and our install process.
Rooftop Tents and Campers
Do I need a roof rack to mount a rooftop tent?
It depends on the tent and the vehicle. Some rooftop tents mount directly to factory crossbars or a low-profile rack. Others, like the Super Pacific X1 and the Lone Peak Camper, are truck bed campers that mount to the bed rails instead of the roof. We will look at your specific vehicle and the tent or camper you are considering and tell you exactly what you need for a solid, safe install.
How much weight can my roof hold?
Every vehicle has a dynamic roof load rating (the weight limit while driving) and a static load rating (the weight it can hold while parked). Dynamic ratings are usually between 100 and 200 pounds for most trucks and SUVs. Static ratings are typically much higher. A rooftop tent needs to stay within your dynamic rating for safe highway driving. We can look up the specs for your exact vehicle and make sure the tent and rack setup stays within those limits.
Can you install a rooftop tent or camper I bought somewhere else?
Yes. If you purchased your tent or camper online or from another dealer, we are happy to install it. We warranty our labor regardless of where the product came from. Just bring it in and we will take care of the rest.
What is the best rooftop tent for my truck?
That depends on how you use it. A solo weekend camper has different needs than a family of four that spends two weeks at a time on the road. Wedge tents are lighter and more aerodynamic. Bed campers like the Super Pacific X1 and the Lone Peak Camper give you a lockable topper, a full sleeping area up top, and standing room in the bed. Hard shell pop-ups like the FSR Evolution and iKamper Skycamp split the difference. We will talk through your use case, your vehicle, and your budget and help you pick the right one.
Which camper and rooftop tent brands do you sell and install?
We install Super Pacific, Lone Peak Overland, Freespirit Recreation (FSR), and iKamper. Tru Automotive is an official Lone Peak Overland install location, and FSR tents and awnings are available through our online store. If you already own a tent or camper from another brand, bring it in and we will take care of the install.
Rooftop tent or truck bed camper: which one should I get?
If you want the bed free for gear during the week and a lockable, weatherproof space at camp, a bed camper like the Super Pacific X1 or Lone Peak Camper is usually the answer. If you drive an SUV, want to keep the truck bed open, or want the lightest and lowest option, a rooftop tent from FSR or iKamper on the right rack makes more sense. Weight, height, and how often you set up and tear down all factor in. Talk to an advisor and we will help you decide.
Electrical and Accessories
Do you do electrical work for overland setups?
Yes. Dual battery systems, solar panel installation, 12V fridge wiring, USB and power outlet integration, lighting, and general power management. We can set up a complete electrical system so everything runs off your auxiliary battery without draining your starter battery. If you need a simple fridge circuit or a full dual-battery solar setup, we can handle it.
Do you install drawer systems and cargo storage?
Yes. Drawer systems, cargo slides, molle panels, fridge slides, and custom storage solutions. Keeping your gear organized and accessible makes a huge difference on longer trips. We install systems from major manufacturers and can help you figure out the best layout for how you use your truck.
